Mixed Conditionals - cмешанные условные предложения
We already are familiar with present, past and future conditional verb forms.
And, as we know, conditional consist of two clauses: the condition or if-clause and the main or result clause.
But sometimes unreal conditional sentences are mixed.
This means that the time in the if-clause is not the same as the time in the result.

Here are the six cases of mixed conditionals:

Case 1: Past if-clause + Present result clause

For example:
  • If I had taken an aspirin, I wouldn't have a headache now.

Case 2: Past if-clause + Future result clause

For example:
  • If I had known that you are going to come by tomorrow, I would be in then.

Case 3: Present if-clause + Past result clause

For example:
  • If she had enough money, she could have invested in the recyclable cups and bags.

Case 4: Present if-clause +Future result clause

For example:
  • If I were you, I would be spending my money eco-friendlier.

Case 5: Future if-clause + Past result clause

For example:
  • If I weren't reducing my water consumption already, I would have planned it.

Case 6: Future if-clause + Present result clause

For example:
  • If I were speaking at the ecology conference next week, I would be nervous.
